Corrosion-free Reinforced Concrete Structures A Possibility with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRD) Rebar
Understand the motivation and challenges of a reinforced concrete infrastructure owner in deploying new technology aimed at providing a longer service life to concrete structures while minimizing maintenance costs.
Understand the benefits and costs of glass FRP reinforcement for concrete structures as a replacement to carbon steel in resolving the degradation problems associated with steel corrosion.

FRCM and How it Differs From CRF
Dr. Antonio Nanni's research interest includes construction materials and their structural performance and field application, including monitoring and renewal, with a focus on the sustainability of buildings and civil infrastructure. During the past 30+ years, Nanni has studied concrete and advanced composite-based systems as the principal investigator on a number of research projects sponsored by federal and state agencies and private industry. He is a registered professional engineer in several states.
Dr. Francisco De Caso's civil and structural engineering research is focused on resilient material systems, and encompass a broad spectrum of challenges related to mechanical behavior, durability, and design. He is also the associate director of the Center for Integration of Composites into Infrastructure (CICI), an NSF Industry/University cooperative research center involved in technology transfer of external and internally used composite systems for concrete structures. Dr. De Caso is actively engaged in sponsored research from federal, state agencies, and private industry.
Mr. Christian C. Steputat is a Ph.D Candidate at the University of Miami, Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in 12 states, with expertise in Structural, Geotechnical, Construction, NDT/NDE, materials engineering, threshold inspections, as well as structural and materials forensics. His current research interests include advanced composite materials and their structural performance, field-application and Monitoring, Composite Materials comprising Carbon, Glass and Basalt Fibers, Nondestructive Testing, ESM, and others.
Mr. Marco Rossini is a Zegna Scholar, and received his M. S. in Structural Engineering with honors from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. His research interests and consulting efforts include the structural performance of innovative materials for new construction and retrofitting, the design of sustainable and resilient civil infrastructures, and the development of rational design methods and codes. His previous experiences cover both the academic and professional fields.
