SOFL Chapter Meeting

  • 09 Feb 2016
  • 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant, Miami, FL
Registration, social hour and dinner will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The Presentation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Our presenter for February, Nick Redmond, PE will provide an introduction to the benefits of SidePlate Systems connection technology in steel framed buildings.  The presentation will include a general history of the modern code provisions for steel building design in high seismic and blast environments, as they directly parallel the growth of Side Plate Systems.   Case studies will also be discussed for the application of SidePlate in R=3, wind governed projects.  Finally, the presentation will describe the modeling of the connection's increased stiffness in analytical software as well as the general incorporation of SidePlate specialty consultation into the overall design and construction process.

Nick Redmond is a structural engineer licensed in CA, SC, and KY.  He received his BS degree from The University of South Carolina, and MS degree from Virginia Tech where he worked as a Via research fellow studying steel moment frame connections.  He has worked for consulting structural engineering firms in Seattle, WA and Lexington, KY on projects ranging from a 3,000 sf renovation to 2,300,000 sf hospital.  He has been a regional engineer with SidePlate Systems since May 2014.
